  29. Entering data:
  30.  
  31. Enter your name and information the same way each time you use
  32. the program because Business Law Library remembers the last items
  33. of information you enter under your name.  For example, if you 
  34. enter "Robert", and at a later time enter "Bob", the program will
  35. read this as two different people. 
  36.  
  37. The name you enter will be used throughout the program.  If your
  38. associates also use the program, each should enter his or her
  39. name when they start the program or by selecting the "File" menu,
  40. "Update User Information".  Alternatively, each person can use
  41. the same name (such as the name of the business) to ensure that
  42. the values last entered in response to questions, are remembered
  43. no matter which person uses the program the next time.
  44.  
  45. If you don't answer a question, that field will be replaced with
  46. a blank line in the printed form.

  49. Printing or Saving:
  50.  
  51. If you want to save a file and edit it in a word processing
  52. program, then click the save button.  Open your word processing
  53. program and select .RTF (Rich Text Format) files.  Your file will
  54. be stored in the "DOCUMENT" directory, beneath the the location 
  55. you selected when you installed the Business Law Library.  For
  56. instance, the default installation destination would place your
  57. saved documents in the following folder or subdirectory:

  59.     "C:\Sofsource\Business Law Library\Document"

  62. Help:
  63.  
  64. Each CD-ROM in the Business Law Library offers a comprehensive
  65. glossary of legal terms, written in understandable language.  To
  66. access this glossary, select the Glossary of Legal Terms from the
  67. Help menu.  Select the term you want from the list.

  69. Statutes, Laws, and Rules:
  70.  
  71. The Help menu offers a selection of laws and rules governing
  72. various topics.  To read or print these documents, select
  73. "Statutes, Laws, and Rules" from the Help menu.  Select the law
  74. you want to display from the list.

  76. Helpful Organizations:
  77.  
  78. The Help menu contains lists of organizations that offer
  79. information, assistance, and services on the topics included in
  80. Business Law Library.  If you need more information or other help
  81. regarding a specific topic, contact one of the organizations
  82. listed or consult your local telephone directory.

  85. If You Experience Video Display Problems:
  86. -----------------------------------------
  87. Business Law Library will adapt itself automatically to most video
  88. display resolutions, so long as your video driver is set to at
  89. least 256-colors (or higher).  If your video driver is set to
  90. something less than 256-colors, then please refer to "How to
  91. Improve Your Video Display" (below) for instructions on changing
  92. your video driver settings.

  95. How to Improve Your Video Display:
  96. ----------------------------------
  97. Video displays are a very flexible part of today's modern
  98. systems.  They are flexible because you are able to change
  99. or modify the way your screen looks.  Of course, having choices
  100. often makes something seem more complicated.  Don't worry,
  101. changing video display settings is a fairly simple process.
  102. In fact, the hardest part is deciding what you want the new
  103. settings to be.  The following suggestions and recommendations
  104. will help to make the decision easier.
  105.  
  106. The first step is to choose what video settings you wish to use.
  107. This normally involves a trade-off or balance between the best
  108. looking display and the most efficient use of available memory.
  109.  
  110. For most situations, we recommend that you select 800x600 with
  111. 256-Colors.  The more colors available, the better the screen
  112. will look, but more colors also use more memory.  If your
  113. computer has less than 12-Mb of memory, then we recommend that
  114. you stick with 256-Colors only.  If your computer has more
  115. than 12-Mb of memory, then feel free to select a setting that
  116. provides even more colors.

  118. Another consideration is how small you want text and icons to
  119. appear.  Generally, as you increase the number of dots or
  120. "pixels" on the screen, things will look smaller and smaller.
  121. For instance, at 800x600, text will look smaller than it does
  122. at 640x480.  Of course, you can also fit more on the screen at
  123. the same time, which is exactly what most people want.
  124.  
  125. Most video drivers give you some flexibility, so you can fit more
  126. on your screen, without making things too small to see clearly.
  127. They make this available by giving you a choice of "Large Fonts"
  128. or "Small Fonts", or they might call it "Large System Resources"
  129. or "Small System Resources".  Typically, this choice is only
  130. available when the driver is set to at least 800x600 (not at
  131. 640x480).  We always recommend "Large Fonts" or "Large System
  132. Resources" because it makes things much easier to see and use.

  134. Business Law Library was designed to look its best in 800x600 with
  135. "Large Fonts" or "Large System Resources", and 256-Colors or more.
  136.  
  137. Once you have chosen the settings you wish to use.  Follow the
  138. instructions below to actually change your system settings.  There
  139. are two procedures, one for people using Windows 95, and another
  140. for people using Windows 3.1.
  141.  
  142. Changing Video Setting, Windows 95:
  143.      For computers running Windows 95 only.
  144.  
  145.      Click on (press and release the left mouse button) the "Start"
  146.      menu button, scroll up to "Settings", which will open a sub-
  147.      menu, click on "Control Panel".  When "Control Panel" opens
  148.      look for an item called "Display" and double-click on
  149.      "Display".
  150.  
  151.      After you double-click on "Display" you will see a series of
  152.      notebook pages with little tabs on top.  Click your mouse on
  153.      the notebook tab called "Settings".  Here you will be able
  154.      to change your video display settings.
  155.  
  156.      The "Color Palette" section enables you to choose the number
  157.      of colors you wish to display.  We recommend 256-Colors.  If
  158.      you wish to choose more colors, we recommend that you do so
  159.      only if your computer has more than 12Mb of memory.
  160.  
  161.      The "Font Size" section enables you to choose large or small
  162.      fonts.  We recommend "Large Fonts" for the most readable
  163.      display.
  164.  
  165.      The "Desktop Area" (and optional "Viewport Area") is where you
  166.      select the video size you wish to use.  If both areas are
  167.      present, then both areas should be set to the same numbers.
  168.      We recommend 800x600.  This will give you a good overall 
  169.      balance between appearance and efficient use of your 
  170.      computer's memory.  Remember, higher numbers mean that more 
  171.      memory will be used.

  173.      After you make your selections, click on the "OK" button to
  174.      instruct Windows to make the changes.  At this point, your
  175.      screen will blank temporarily, then will reappear using the
  176.      new settings.  A pop up message will ask you if you wish to
  177.      keep the new settings, click "Yes".  If you changed the font
  178.      size (Large Fonts or Small Fonts), then you will need to
  179.      restart Windows before the changes take effect.  Simply
  180.      click "Yes" when it asks you if you want to restart Windows
  181.      now.  That's all there is to it!

  183. Changing Video Settings, Windows 3.1:
  184.      For computers running Windows 3.1 only.
  185.  
  186.      Windows 3.1 is a bit more primitive than Windows 95 when it
  187.      comes to changing video settings.  Windows 3.1 will always
  188.      restart before the new settings take effect.
  189.  
  190.      In the Program Manager, double-click on the "Main" program
  191.      group.  When it opens, double-click on the "Setup" or
  192.      "Windows Setup" icon.  When the Windows Setup window opens,
  193.      click on the "Options" menu, then click "Change System
  194.      Settings".

  196.      When the "Change System Settings" window opens, you will
  197.      see a choice called "Display".  The current settings are
  198.      shown.  Pay close attention to the current settings, because
  199.      they will tell you what kind of video display card you have.
  200.      For instance, it might say "Super VGA" or "Stealth VRAM" or
  201.      something else.  You should stick to the options for that
  202.      particular video display adapter.  In other words, if it
  203.      says "Super VGA", for instance, then choose only from those
  204.      options that start with "Super VGA".  Select the setting
  205.      you want.  We recommend 800x600x256 (the third number is the
  206.      number of colors).  If you have a choice of Large or Small
  207.      Fonts, we recommend Large Fonts.

  209.      After you have made your selection, click on the "OK" button.
  210.      The next message will ask you if you want to restart Windows
  211.      now, select yes to restart Windows now.  That's it!

  214. System Requirements:
  215. --------------------
  216. This program requires Microsoft Windows, Windows 95 or Windows NT.
  217.  
  218. Video Requirements:  256-Color or better
  219. CPU Requirements:    80386 or better
  220.  
  221. The CD-ROM discs contain two versions of the program:  a 16-Bit
  222. version and a 32-Bit version.  The 16-Bit version requires
  223. Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher.  The 32-Bit version requires
  224. Windows 95 or higher, or Windows NT 4.0 or higher.

  226. Memory Requirements:  The memory requirements depend on which
  227.                       version you are using.  The 16-bit version
  228.                       for Windows 3.1 requires at least 4-Mb of
  229.                       memory, with 8-Mb recommended.  The 32-bit
  230.                       version for Windows 95 requires at least
  231.                       8-Mb of memory, with 16-Mb recommended.

  233. This program will work with most common video display resolutions,
  234. including 640x480, 800x600, and 1024x768, with video drivers set
  235. to either Large or Small Fonts (sometimes called Large or Small
  236. System Resources).

  242. Windows for Workgroups 3.1 and 3.11, Windows 95, Windows 95
  243. with Service Pack 1, and Windows 95 OEM-SR2, and Windows NT 4.0.
